Can seagrass help fight ocean acidification?

Of course, the only way to truly fight ocean acidification reducing emissions Seagrass off the coast of California’s Channel Islands.  Credit: Photographer: Claire Fackler, CINMS, NOAA.   Seagrass meadows could play a limited, localized role in alleviating ocean acidification in coastal ecosystems, according to new work led by Carnegie’s David

Ocean acidification stress index for shellfish (OASIS): Linking Pacific oyster larval survival and exposure to variable carbonate chemistry regimes

Authors: Iria Gimenez, George G. Waldbusser, Burke Hales https://www.elementascience.org/article/10.1525/elementa.306/ Abstract Understanding larval bivalve responses to variable regimes of seawater carbonate chemistry requires realistic quantification of physiological stress. Based on a degree-day modeling approach, we developed a new metric, the ocean acidification stress index for shellfish (OASIS), for this purpose. OASIS
